With COVID-19 continuing to impact student mobility in New Zealand, we are pleased to announce the opening of the Taylors College Auckland Remote Learning Centre at the Shanghai Institute of Technology on 9th July 2021.

Students who accept their offer to the University of Auckland Foundation Studies Certificate programme will have the opportunity to study online at the remote learning centre while enjoying an on-campus experience. Students will attend lectures and tutorials in a classroom setting on campus, delivered virtually by Taylors College Auckland teachers, and can take advantage of the Institute's academic and leisure facilities.

This centre will give our students the opportunity to experience a university setting ahead of travelling to Auckland, as we anticipate the opening of the borders to New Zealand. It has been designed to bring students together which aims to have a positive effect on their mental health and wellbeing, build a sense of community and support strong academic outcomes.

Here are just some of the benefits students will experience if they choose to study at our remote learning centre in Shanghai:

Accommodation (following COVID-19 regulation if any)

  • Dormitory style accommodation
  • Relocation assistance available from the Shanghai Institute of Technology student support team
  • Onsite manager

Fully equipped learning facilities

  • High speed internet connections (both wired and wireless)
  • Large screens and audio/visual capability for the class group
  • Space for group work projects.
  • Laboratory access where required

On-campus student support resources

  • Ongoing campus and college support
  • Student orientation on the campus
  • Facilities orientation support, coordinated logistics with classrooms
  • Additional local English support (e.g. conversation clubs)

Campus life

  • Access to all facilities at Shanghai Institute of Technology; including library, gym and canteen
  • Take part in campus activities and social events

It is also important when talking to prospective students to advise them that they do not need a visa to study with us offshore. When the borders to New Zealand are open again, students will be invited to apply for a visa. Find out more about campus life in Auckland here.

The University of Auckland China Learning Centres

The University has four dedicated learning centres across China for students studying an online undergraduate bachelor’s degree. These centres have been opened specifically to support students who wish to study in a classroom setting whilst the borders to New Zealand remain closed.

Lessons are delivered in a classroom setting, virtually by academics from the University of Auckland. In addition, learning coordinators are available at each location for in person academic support at our prestigious partner universities.
